A new women-only holistic therapy room has recently opened its doors in town, offering an exclusive haven for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Located in Saltzon, next door to Sara kulturhus, The Hideaway aims to provide a sanctuary where women can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and indulge in luxurious massage treatments using aromatherapy oils tailored specifically for their needs.
Saltzon and The Hideaway boast a serene ambience, with warm, golden lighting provided from the numerous salt lamps. Saltzon’s Felicia Ljungberg said:
– Our business, Saltzon, works a lot with mindfulness, spiritual treatments and the relaxing salt room. The Hideaway feels like a great extension to our business since Nicola works with people's bodies. Together I really think we can bring some peace and relaxation for all the people in Skellefteå! Stress is one of the worst dangers in our society today, and I think that Saltzon and The Hideaway together can be just the right medicine to help with that!
Upon entering The Hideaway, guests are greeted by Nicola, a vivacious and friendly British woman who has 18 years of holistic and spa therapy experience.
– After four years away from the business I have realised that my heart will always be with holistic therapy, and it was time to go back to my roots. Having moved to Skellefteå from England three years ago I have felt a little lost and not sure of my place in society. But now a spark has reignited, and I feel a sense of belonging again.
Nicola made a decision to focus her work entirely on women – of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures.
– In our fast-paced world, we women often prioritize the needs of others, leaving little time for self-care. That's where I come in. I'm particularly passionate about supporting women who have recently moved to Skellefteå. I remember feeling stressed, disconnected, and overwhelmed when I first arrived.
From a 35-minute back, neck and shoulder massage (‘Lighten the Load’) to a full 90-minute full body exfoliation, massage, facial and scalp massage (Whole Again), the spa offers a tailored menu aimed at promoting inner and outer harmony. By combining techniques from Indian head massage, Hawaiian lomi lomi and Ayurvedic massage, Nicola ensures that you walk out the door feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
In addition to massage, Nicola also offers reflexology. Key areas on the feet are massaged to treat a whole host of ailments from stress to stomach ache, headaches to back pain.
I visited the spa and had the ‘Heaven at The Hideaway’ - a 65-minute massage treatment that focuses on the back, neck and shoulders. I fell asleep during the back massage - a testament to Nicola that she knows what she’s doing!
I asked Nicola if she had any tips for newcomers thinking of starting a new business. She said:
– Reach out and speak to people in similar industries. I have found most people are really willing to help where they can. Don't give up!
