Dun & Bradstreet has conducted a decade-long analysis, comparing the business prospects of Swedish municipalities in 2014 with their current standing.
The analysis reveals a mixed bag of fortunes. Skellefteå has made a significant leap, climbing 35 places from 105th to 69th. Conversely, Malå has experienced a sharp decline, plummeting 86 places from 185th to 271st. Norsjö has also seen a significant drop, falling 80 places from 179th to 259th.
– No municipality in Norrbotten and Västerbotten has received the lowest rating, says Axel Frisk, a senior analyst at Dun & Bradstreet.
The average rating for municipalities in northern Sweden is comparable to the national average. While population growth in these areas is slightly lower than the national average, the business community structure is more balanced.
The analysis indicates that many Swedish municipalities are experiencing improved growth prospects. Meanwhile, major cities like Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö are losing ground to neighbouring municipalities in terms of rankings
– The decline in growth prospects for Sweden's major cities is attributed to several factors, including a slowdown in population growth, says Frisk.
