"Employers - listen to Norran and be brave!"
Kristina Sundin Jonsson says:
– Our needs are also about things in the short term. Right now labor market history is being written where we need to act together so as not to miss out on highly sought-after, competent people who have found a home in Skellefteå and the region.
Lars Lustig joins Sundin Jonsson's appeal to employers to be brave:
– Take the chance! Or as Paul Connolly wrote in Norran the other day: Skellefteå must be a trailblazer again.

"Crucial to emphasize to employers that this opportunity may not arise again"
Lars Lustig of Västerbotten Lansstyrelsen discusses an economic report released last week.
– Sweden is currently experiencing a fairly deep recession. However, there's a significant chance of recovery next year. Notably, Västerbotten had an exceptionally strong labor market. It's difficult to say there was a recession here, he explains.
Nevertheless, a recent "backlash" has negatively impacted companies' future outlook.
– The primary obstacle to growth has been a shortage of skills and labor. I concur with Kristina's assessment that this presents a golden opportunity. While much focus has been on government authorities, it's crucial to emphasize to employers that this opportunity may not arise again, he says.

"You must register with Arbetsförmedlingen"
Ida Rönnblom of Arbetsförmedlingen discusses an EU fund, the so-called Globalization Fund. Arbetsförmedlingen was tasked with applying for funds from this source on Thursday. They have prepared an application that will be submitted to the European Commission, which will then present a decision to the European Parliament.
– From now on, we can begin the process of identifying individuals and taking steps to assist them, says Rönnblom.
The fund is designed to support those affected, she explains.
– This includes individuals who have been laid off from Northvolt or work for subcontractors in directly affected roles.
The only people who can benefit from Globalization Fund entails are those who are registered with Arbetsförmedlingen.
Rönnblom reiterates the importance of registering with the employment agency on the first unemployed day.

"Time is running out!"
– We have hundreds of permits expiring soon, within a few weeks. We risk losing this valuable expertise in a very short time, says Kristina Sundin Jonsson.
Not all available jobs are listed on Arbetsförmedlingen's job bank, making it difficult for job seekers to find them.
– Our analysis reveals a unique opportunity to address the significant labor shortage by integrating the skilled workforce offered by third-country nationals, she adds.

"Deeply rooted in Skellefteå"
According to Skellefteå's city manager, Kristina Sundin Jonsson, the current situation in Skellefteå following recent layoffs differs significantly from historical instances of widespread job cuts.
– These individuals are highly skilled professionals dismissed from high-tech production, with strong mobility in the labor market, she explains.
Over a third of those affected have a partner and at least one child, and another third have a partner residing in Skellefteå.
– We believe that these groups are more deeply rooted in Skellefteå than others. A significant portion of them are content and wish to remain in the municipality or region, she adds.
Last week, state secretaries from the government were received in the municipal hall.
– It was an opportunity to highlight the needs we see. We sent back concrete proposals to the government regarding business, infrastructure, the labor market and education, says Kristina Sundin Jonsson.
– The time aspect for non-EU, third-country nationals was particularly pointed out.
