UPDATE: Fri, 10:30
According to SVT, Northvolt has announced the closure of the modular village in Ursviken, Skellefteå, with less than three weeks' notice. Employees are now forced to relocate to other modules in the Solbacken area.
– It's utter chaos said an employee at Camp Ursviken who spoke with SVT.
The situation is further complicated by Northvolt's outstanding rental debts. On October 23, employees received an internal message informing them that the Ursviken staff accommodation would be closed on November 15.
– We've basically been told to pack up and move, said an employee who spoke with SVT.
Around 500 employees are expected to move to Solbacken in the coming weeks. According to information to SVT, the landlord will this time demand advance payment from Northvolt.
UPDATE: Weds, 16:00
Northvolt has raised some short-term capital, reports DI.
This is expected to give the company enough cash for a little while, and enough to pay wages on Friday.
In a separate development, Volvo Cars is adamant it won't invest in Northvolt.
Volvo Cars has been involved in battery development through its subsidiary, Novo Energy, in Gothenburg. Northvolt holds a 50% stake in Novo Energy. However, Volvo Cars has not invested in Northvolt and has no plans to do so, according to CEO Jim Rowan.
– We would not push for capital in Northvolt. The answer to that question is absolutely not.
Regarding the future of Novo Energy if Northvolt withdraws from the partnership, Rowan declined to speculate.
– We'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it, he said.
Northvolt has not responded to requests for comment.
