Last week, Skellefteå experienced a record-breaking September heatwave. The previous monthly high of 24.6 degrees Celsius was shattered, with temperatures reaching a new September record of 27.2 degrees Celsius.
According to SMHI meteorologist Sofia Söderberg, several factors contributed to the heatwave.
– A warm air mass and a high-pressure system, combined with sunny and dry conditions, led to elevated temperatures, she explained.
– The coastal location of Skellefteå, with its potential for strong winds, may have also played a role.
However, the coming days are expected to bring cooler, more autumn-like weather. While warmer air masses are forecast for later next week, the likelihood of another heatwave appears low based on current projections.
– More of those high temperatures aren't indicated in the forecast material at the moment, Söderberg noted.
– Although it can't be entirely ruled out.
