One year ago, Skellefteå AIK in second place on the list, which was topped by last year's SM-winner Växjö Lakers.
But now the team from northern Västerbotten is ranked as number one in Europe. This comes after Skellefteå AIK earned a total of 56.11 points in the rankings.
– It's a bit difficult to determine exactly how to evaluate this list. But of course, it is great to be ranked at number one says Forssell, who is proud of the season the team has achieved:
– We have done a really great job winning the SM gold medal and also reaching the finals in the CHL (Champions Hockey League). It is nice that we are recognized for our hard work. It is a validation for the whole club.
Second on the list is Pardubice from the Czech Republic, with 55,86 points. They are followed by ZSC, Switzerland (53,68), Metallurg Magnitogorsk, KHL, Russia (50,15), and Växjö, SHL, Sweden (49,96).
Hockeyarchives has ranked the 250 best European clubs every year since 1995. To calculate a final score the site reviews the success of each individual team. Playing well in a higher ranked league earns more points than it would in a lower ranked league. Playing in a cup or in CHL is also weighed into the total score.
