Arbetsförmedlingen (the Swedish employment agency) is preparing for a sharp rise in unemployment claims in Skellefteå, particularly on November 29, the first day 800 ex-Northvolters will officially be unemployed, reports SVT.
To manage the anticipated surge, the agency is bringing in extra staff.
– We estimate that hundreds of people could file for unemployment on the very first day, said Mona Burlin, an official at Arbetsförmedlingen.
While the agency aims to process most claims on the first day, it acknowledges that additional days may be needed. To facilitate the process, many services will be accessible online.
Another wave of unemployment is anticipated in January when several hundred additional Northvolt employees, primarily white-collar workers, are expected to register.
