A close call on Road 95 (the Boliden road) on Saturday, March 2nd, has resulted in charges of gross negligence against a car driver. The driver crossed into oncoming traffic, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with a truck. The truck driver swerved into the ditch to avoid
Seven emergency service units and two ambulances responded to the scene. The car driver, a woman, sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
According to Sebastian Fjaestad, operations leader at Skellefteå rescue services, the incident was "a near head-on collision." Rescue crews used a roof cutter to safely extract the driver from the car.
Prosecutor Anna Nilsson alleges the car driver displayed "a significant failure to exercise due care and caution" by entering oncoming traffic. The indictment also states the driver acted with "gross negligence."
The accused woman has confessed to the charges in police questioning. A witness and the truck driver will testify at the upcoming trial.
– I saw the car swerve into my lane suddenly, the truck driver recounted in police interrogation.
– I swerved into the ditch to avoid a head-on collision. It would have been a direct hit if I hadn't. I did everything I could to avoid a crash.
