As weather becomes more extreme, quick swims during a trip might become more common. What's more delightful than enjoying the views and houses around a lake while floating in it? A bag with swimwear and a towel should be in every seasoned traveler's hand luggage nowadays.
If you see a swimming spot where someone is already in the water, it signals that it's safe for you to dive in as well. It might feel a bit scary to enter a dark lake where you can't see the bottom, but those coming out of the water are usually happy to answer questions about rocks, mud, and other things you might want to know beforehand.
Bygdeträsket is the largest lake in Skellefteå municipality with an area of 29.3 square kilometers. On a warm day, there are probably many spots where people are swimming.
One of the beaches with the promising name Storsand is located a few kilometers outside Bygdsiljum. There are signs from the road coming from Burträsk, and at a Y-junction, you turn left.
A large group settled on blankets and towels comes from Umeå and Skellefteå. The common link is Korssjön, which is about ten kilometers away towards Flarken.
– That lake is not very suitable for swimming in so we go to other beaches when we want to swim, says Solveig Gustavsson.
Not everyone in the group has swum, as the water is considered too cold.
– It's a big lake, and it takes time to warm up. If the air is really warm, then it's nice to cool off here, says Solveig.
An advantage of the beach is that it is very shallow.
– It's good for families with children, says Petra Tkachenko Widmark from Skellefteå, whose children Dima and Alina are swimming in the water.
– This is our paradise, she says as the couple comes out of the water after a swim.
