If this is your first midsummer in Sweden you are in for a treat. Join the midsummer celebrations in Bonnstan which start with the dressing and raising of the midsummer pole. Then follows a whole day of celebrations that includes dancing around the pole, riding a mini train, performances and speeches. Put on your best summer clothes, place a flower wreath on your head and come along to Bonnstan.

What: Art exhibition by Malin Rost At some point in life

Exhibition at Galleri1 this weekend.

"At some point in life" is the exhibition that Malin Rost has thought about for many years. Malin has always said that she will exhibit her artwork "at some point in life". It took a life crisis for it to happen. In this exhibition, Malin portrays things that have given her joy in life and refuge in recent times. Malin paints mostly in acrylic and most of what she exhibits is newly produced artworks. Nature, mainly the mountain world and portraits, are motifs the artist likes to paint, and preferably with a lot of colour.

What: Skellefteå's biggest flea market

Do you need to furnish your new home or do you need to have a clear out? This is a great opportunity for pre-loved objects to find new owners. It is also great for people-watching. Hotdogs, ice-cream and fika will be on offer.

What: Midsummer trot family party
This weekend there will be a big trotting party at the racetrack. Trotting races, lots of people and food. A festive occasion for young and old alike. Come along for a fast-paced evening at the track. First start at 19:30 including the big races Midsommarkransen and Cementcupen.

What: Qigong at Nordanå
A Qigong try-out session in the tranquil Nordanå park. Qigong is a form of exercise that is based on performing slow movements while controlling the breathing, quieting the mind and listening inwardly. The group meets up near Nyborgsgården. In the event of thunder or torrential rain, the session will be cancelled. No prior knowledge or registration is required.

What: Try traditional Swedish dancing

Traditional Swedish dancing.

All throughout the summer Skellefteå municipality are arranging dance evenings in collaboration with local dance groups. This Monday everyone is invited to try out traditional Swedish folk dancing. The dance group Guldstalaget will show how it is done and then everyone will try the dance together.

Where: Snäckan dance floor, Nordanå. In case of rain, Hallen, Nordanå is used.

What: Theatre, crafts and painting
Paint, create, do crafts, try out theatre make-up, visit the book bus, listen to a fairytale, watch theatre performances and more. The activities are free and everyone is welcome. The day starts at noon with a theatre performance by drama teachers from the culture school, and it continues with other activities. Feel free to drop in.

What: Creative workshop bird watching and insect evolution

Inspired by Oswaldo Maciá's exhibition The Theatre of Energy, the creative workshop explores the role of birds and insects in pollination, migration and the overall interaction in nature. In Konstverkstan, you can use different kinds of material to create fictitious insects and imaginative little birds. Drop-in, no prior knowledge is required, and the material is free. Stay as long as you want and if you do not finish in time, you are welcome to come back another day.

Summertime Music & Life Festival starts next week.

The Summertime Music & Life Festival starts off on Thursday and runs over the weekend, the last day being Sunday. Entrance is free during the daytime. The whole of Thursday is also free of charge. There is something for everyone, from dance punk to accordion music. It is also a good opportunity to see some local music acts. Why not check out country rock from Norrland performed by the Umeå band Halm that is part of the Scandinavian Americana sound.

What: Go swimming

Jump in the water.

The summer is in full swing and as the temperature has been above 30 degrees the waters are now pleasantly warm but cool enough to be refreshing. As it basically never gets dark you can go swimming at any time. The only question is lake or sea. If you want a sandy beach try for example Byske havsbad. Or try one of the many lakes with municipal facilities such as jetties, toilets and changing huts.
