Walpurgis (or Valborg) Night, tomorrow, is the night of the bonfire in Sweden, traditionally believed to ward off evil spirits, but now a festive way of incinerating excess gardening and household odds and ends. Here is a list of bonfires in Skellefteå.

Many of these come from Svenska Kyrkan.

Bonfires

Here’s where bonfires will be held on Wednesday, 30 April:

Skråmträsks bönhus:

Organiser: Svenska kyrkan

Time: The celebration begins at 18. The bonfire will be lit at around 19.45.

Anderstorps kyrka:

Organiser: Svenska kyrkan

Time: The celebration takes place between 18.00 and 21.00

Other: In addition to the bonfire, there will also be a spring speech and choir singing. Outdoor activities will be arranged, coffee will be served, toasted sandwiches will be for sale, and there will be an opportunity to grill sausages.

Landskyrkan, by the parish hall

Organiser: Svenska kyrkan

Time: The celebration begins at 18:00 with a weekly mass in the church. The bonfire is lit at 18:30.

Other: There will also be a spring speech and choir singing. At 20:00, visitors are invited to a spring organ performance inside the church. During the evening, there will be an opportunity to buy coffee and Parisian sandwiches.

Bergsbykyrkan:

Organiser: Svenska kyrkan

Time: The celebration takes place between 18:30 and 21:30.

Other: There will be a café.

Sandfors bönhus:

Organiser: Svenska kyrkan

Time: The bonfire will be lit at 8 p.m.

Other: It will be possible to buy sausages with bread, coffee, and cake. There will also be a service and choir singing.

Morö Backe:

Organiser: Morön BK

Time: The bonfire will be lit at 15:30.

Other: There will also be coffee and fika for sale.

Drängsmark, at the People's House: 

Organiser: Centrumhörnan 

Time: The celebration starts at 6:00 PM, and the bonfire will be lit at 6:30 PM. 

Other: Snacks, coffee, and hot dogs will be available for purchase. There will also be a free fishing pond for children and small fires for grilling sausages.

Skelleftehamn, Örjan's IP: 

Organiser: Rönnskär Railcare IF 

Time: The celebration begins at 6:00 PM, with the bonfire being lit at 6:30 PM. 

Other: Coffee, craft stalls, and pony rides will be available.

Medle, by the pond: 

Organiser: EFS 

Time: 7:30 PM 

Other: Spring songs will be sung, and hot dogs, drinks, and lottery tickets will be for sale.

Burträsk

Organiser: Burträsk Together 

Time: Around 5:30 PM, a torchlight procession will depart from Kyrkkurvan to the harbor, where the bonfire will be lit. 

Other: Spring songs and speeches will be featured, along with coffee for sale and the opportunity to grill sausages.

Innansjön, at Innannården: 

Organiser: Innansjöns village development 

Time: The celebration starts at 5:30 PM, and the bonfire will be lit at 6:30 PM. 

Other: Sausages and coffee will be available for purchase, and you can also grill your own. There will also be a tip walk for children.

Lövånger, at Lövångergården: 

Organiser: Lövånger development, Lövångergården, and Lövånger parish 

Time: The bonfire will be lit at 7:00 PM. 

Other: A spring speech and choir singing will be included.

Tjärn, at Tjärn's prayer house: 

Organiser: Tjärns Recreation Association 

Time: The celebration starts at 6:30 PM, and the bonfire will be lit at 7:00 PM. 

Other: Coffee and lottery tickets will be for sale, and there will be a tips round (a sort of treasure hunt).

Bureå, Myggvalla IP: 

Organiser: Bureå IF 

Time: The bonfire will be lit at 6:30 PM. 

Other: Snacks, coffee, hamburgers, and sweets will be available for purchase.

Sweden throws open the doors to spring with Walpurgis (or Valborg, short for Valborgsmässoafton)! This festive tradition on April 30 marks the end of winter and the promise of warmer days.
