Region Västerbotten has launched a temporary support program for subcontractors impacted by Northvolt's troubles in Skellefteå.

– We need to give these subcontractors a fair chance to adapt and continue contributing to northern Sweden’s growth, says Rickard Carstedt, chair of the regional development committee.

The program, called Tillfällig kompetenscheck (Temporary competence check), is aimed at subcontractors badly affected by Northvolt’s downsizing, helping them build skills or restructure their businesses to ensure long-term stability. Companies affected by these changes can apply.

– The program supports subcontractors by focusing on employee skills and helping them move into new markets, explains Nils Enwald, head of operations for corporate and project financing at Region Västerbotten.

– We aim to prevent bankruptcies and job losses through this support.
