Christmas Café for newcomers exceeds all expectations!

In the run-up to this year's Christmas Café, organized by Welcome House Skellefteå, there were high hopes that maybe 400 newcomers would attend. In the event, 800 Skellefteå newbies streamed through the doors at the Exporatoriet building in Nordanå on Sunday, to enjoy the fika, fun and a visit from a very popular Santa Claus.

Sunday's Christmas Café was a free, invite-only, event for those who had been in Skellefteå for two years or less. The organizers had hired the Exploratoriet in Nordanå for the event, expecting approximately 400 people to attend.

There was fika, hot dogs, coffee and soft drinks, all provided for free, as well as a visit from the big man himself, Santa Claus. There was also the wonderful child-friendly fun provided by the exhibits and installations at the Exploratoriet, and a big room devoted to crafting activities.

But, as it turned out, a whopping 800 newcomers thronged the event which was held just adjacent to the annual Christmas market. Micael Silenstam of Welcome House Skellefteå was overjoyed with the turnout:

– It was a delight to see so many people from all over the world meet up and mingle. Meeting Santa and taking pictures with him was a big event for both younger and older children, he said.

There are even more photos of the event below. See anyone you recognize?
