One man was taken to hospital by ambulance after the accident. According to the police, the man is in his 40s.
Robert Eckhardt, medical supervisor at the ambulance service in Skellefteå, writes in an e-mail to Norran that the man "has a corrosive substance in his eye".
– The man is considered to be moderately injured, says Eckhardt.
The police have been called to the scene.
– We are at the scene of the accident and are in charge of the investigation, says police spokeswoman Christina Hallin.
Boliden Rönnskär press officer Ann Lundholm confirms that the accident happened in Rönnskärsverken.
– A person was handling a hose containing a chemical solution of sulphuric acid. Somehow the solution got into his eyes, even though he was wearing protective goggles.
The person was examined at the hospital.
– He will return to work tomorrow.
Boliden Rönnskär has launched an investigation.
– We are conducting an investigation to find out how this could have happened.
At 10.44 am the police report that they have finished their work at the scene, and that they will determine if there was a breach of environmental stewardship.
