Northvolt faces huge decision as supplier cuts staff

Northvolt, which filed for bankruptcy last week, faces a critical decision.
The bankruptcy trustee expects to determine in the coming days whether operations will be suspended or continued.
In associated news, Northvolt subcontractor Kedali has given notice to most of its employees.

"We're working very hard to find a way to keep operations going. A decision on this will be made during the current week," writes Northvolt bankruptcy trustee Mikael Kubu in an email to TT.

The statement comes after Kubu indicated last week that the primary focus was to hold discussions with Northvolt's major customers to assess whether operations could continue while seeking buyers for the assets or the business.

The news comes as Northvolt subcontractor Kedali has given notice to most production staff and says that it is shutting down operations. Kedali manufactures the aluminum containers that Northvolt packs its battery cells in.

Kedali's components are essential for the production of Northvolt's batteries.

In two weeks, the supply of components for Northvolt will run out, a source tells Dagens Arbete.

However, a Kedali source has told Norran that not everyone at the company has been fired.

– They are keeping some Chinese employees; we think it's in case production needs to start up again, says the employee.
