Meteorological spring has arrived in Byske

In order for there to be meteorological spring according to the definition of Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, SMHI, the average temperature must be above zero degrees for seven days in a row.

That is exactly what has happened on the coast around Umeå and around Fällfors and Byske.

When do you think that spring will come to Skellefteå?

– The average for meteorological spring between the years 1991 to 2020 was in April – so around 10 April, says Anders Wettergren, meteorologist at SMHI.

He stresses that spring is very early this year.

– It will probably go back to winter temperatures again.

Even if the temperature would go back to below zero again it will not officially be winter.

However it will not officially be winter then. When the seven day limit has been passed we do not jump back and forth between spring and winter even if the temperature would fluctuate.

– It could become very chaotic!
