– I want the camp site to be a creative environment. An environment to discover things, stimulate the senses and an environment that awakens curiosity, says Brettschneider.
For example, there is a large lego exhibition at the camp site. It started with a couple of display cases in the shop he kept many years ago and since he took over the camp site the exhibition has grown larger each year.
– You try to find all sorts of spaces. We’ve had to build a tent outside the workshop, the exhibition keeps growing, he says.
When Norran came to visit there was a lot to see, for example a large re-creation of the Hogwarts’ dining hall and another one of the church Skellefteå landskyrka. The entire exhibition has taken up to 15 years to build and Brettschneider has built a lot of it, but not all, himself.
– I’ve built the main part of it but there are three other people who have had great input. Robert Lundmark, Stefan Johansson and Emma Farm.
The lego is not just at the camp site because it is cool to look at, Brettschneider says. He thinks that it can awaken an earlier interest.
– If you’ve grown up with lego but has since stopped, you can come here to see how much you can actually build. It can reawaken the interest. You can also find other likeminded people. There are those who’ve been sitting alone at home building lego without knowing that there are other adult lego builders. That’s why we usually have at least two meetings a year here at the camp site for lego builders.
But lego is not the only thing that sticks out at Bureå camping. All around the site are lots of sculptures, both in metal and wood. Local artists, one in Piteå and one in the Bureå area, who have created them.
– It’s fun to be able to highlight smaller companies and artists who are very skilled but perhaps don’t gain so much attention, says Brettschneider.
Many of the metal sculptures depict characters from popular films and the wood sculptures feature many animals. For example owls. And there will be more sculptures on display.
– I’ll receive delivery of four new metal sculptures this week, says Hans Brettschneider.
