The shooting in Örebro, in central Sweden, is the deadliest mass shooting in Swedish history. Eleven people are confirmed dead in the attack at Västhaga, Örebro, with police indicating the death toll may rise. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer confirmed that the suspected perpetrator is among the deceased.

The shooting occurred inside Campus Risbergska, Örebro's centre for municipal adult education, shortly after 12:30 PM on Tuesday. Students at the school and nearby institutions were initially sheltered in place before being released later in the afternoon.

Authorities are working to identify the victims. The suspected perpetrator is reported to have had a gun licence and was not previously known to police, and has no apparent ties to criminal gangs or terrorism.

Region Örebro has activated its special medical management procedures and entered crisis mode. Örebro University Hospital is treating six injured patients. Police are treating the shooting as a major incident, receiving support from other police regions.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called the attack a “terrible act of violence” on a “very painful day for all of Sweden.”

He said the government was working closely with the police and that the operation was still ongoing.
