The site was previously occupied by residential buildings, and the proposed addition of a preschool is a departure from the current detailed plan. As a result, an extensive public hearing is being held to gather input. Comments can be submitted until September 11.
One effect of the plan is that Wesslaugatan will be open to traffic. It is currently closed off by residents who use tires placed on the road to make sledding safer on the nearby hill.
As a result, it is proposed to relocate the sledding hill. It is also proposed to relocate the existing disc golf course on the property. Both activities are considered important for Boliden, but the benefit of building on the site and opening the road is considered more pressing.
Opening Wesslaugatan to traffic benefits cars and trucks going to the preschool by providing a roundabout instead of relying on a turning area. This saves space that can be used for the preschool's outdoor environment.
The plan calls for two-story buildings with a maximum height of about eight meters, resulting in about 80 new apartments. The buildings will be relatively slender, in keeping with the layout of Boliden. Colors will be muted, avoiding stark whites and dark shades.
The preschool will be allowed to reach a height of 11 meters To accommodate the solar panels and to prevent snow from falling on any playing children, the roof will be a gently pitched gable roof.
