No green card needed here – anyone can play

Summer is not just lazy days in a sun longer or hammock. Some form of activity may be necessary, especially if there are children and young people in the family. A place that is suitable for most ages is the golf course.

Skellefteå golf club has a nine hole course where anyone can play without any previous knowledge or a membership. You only need to pay a fee and get out there. There is also the possibility of hiring clubs.

The distance between the holes is shorter than at a regular golf course. It has nine holes and the distances from tee off to the hole is everything from 70 to 270 metres.

– I worked here before the new course was built and I see a great difference. There is less of a barrier to try it out and the game is simpler. The more who try golf the better for the sport, says the PGA coach Stephen Skinner.

Children and young people especially could benefit from the shorter distances. A group of young players are practising when Norran tags along. They do not have time for the whole course in an hour so they select some holes they want to play.

– You otherwise need to allow up to two hours to do the whole course, Stephen says.

You cannot book this course and that is why you may sometimes have to wait, both to start playing and if or when you catch up with other groups.

– During the summer holiday people play all day. In the pre-season and off-season there are more people out on the course on afternoons and evenings, he says.

Other things that anyone can do at Skellefteå golf club is visit the restaurant. You can actually camp here as well.

In the caravan park Ann-Katrin and Svante Adamsson have a front-row seat towards the blue trail of the golf course.

– It has happened that a ball has ended up among the caravans but it’s unusual, says Svante.

The couple has spent seasons in the golf camp site for close to 25 years. Initially they lived in Arjeplog.

– If Skellefteå residents can go to Arjeplog to ski we thought we can go to them to play golf.

They now live in Skellefteå.

– When we stay out here we play almost every day, you feel like playing when you see everyone out on the course, says Ann-Katrin.
