Seismologists at Uppsala University report several small aftershocks following the larger earthquake in the Vebomark/Mjövattnet area.
The initial earthquake, with an estimated magnitude of 2.9, occurred at 10:51 on Saturday and was felt by many residents. Its epicenter was located between Vebomark and Mjövattnet.
The Department of Geosciences at Uppsala University was contacted on Sunday for an update following a reader report about aftershocks.
– Yes, that's correct, confirmed seismologist Peter Schmidt after checking the monitoring instruments.
– There were five minor events, all registering below 0.5 on the magnitude scale. It's unlikely anyone felt them unless they were indoors, as tremors are more noticeable indoors.
These aftershocks occurred at 11:20 Saturday (two events), 3:08 Saturday (one event), and the remaining three occurred overnight between Saturday and Sunday.
